Fully Off

James Shelley:

Increasingly I am finding myself powering the phone down when I get home from work. Not “silent mode.” Not “airplane mode.” Off. Disconnected.

It reminds me of “taking the phone off the hook,” like they did in those good ’ol landline days… except now it’s like taking the whole world off the hook.

Do this. I dare you. Pick a day, maybe an evening this week or part of your weekend and shut your phone off. It’ll be uncomfortable and you might feel like you’re missing out. You might think that something bad is going to happen and you’ll never find out. But keep it off. Let go, disconnect, and then go do something you love—distraction free. See how you feel by the end of it.
