What The Internet is Doing To Our Brains

Politics, community, conversation, parenthood, compassion, reading, art, music, literature, faith, love—these things require patience, discipline, fortitude and practice. Are these fostered by staring at a computer screen? Screen time takes us away from the essential things that make us human and makes it harder for our brains to meaningfully engage with them when we do find the time.
For me there’s an attraction to the things I can build and interesting people I can meet through my computer screen but I know I need to keep fighting to approach those things in a real, humanist way. I want the internet to be a playground that I can explore which makes the person I am around the neighborhood better educated and a better communicator.
