As he mentions, just getting something down is about gaining momentum. So often, the cursor mocks us each time it momentarily reappears, disturbing the perfectly pure, empty page. Part of my writing toolkit (which admittedly hasn’t gotten much use lately) is a bucket where I can confidently write in private. There’s no spelling correction to remind me of my inadequacies, no witty titles or complex file naming scheme to hold me back from throwing myself into a new blank page. It’s a small difference but it sometimes is just enough for me to get over my own hesitations and mark up a blank page.
